Staybridge Suites The Hague - Parliament
In the city centre of The Hague, opposite to the ‘Hofvijver’ pond and the Binnenhof (the location of meetings of the Dutch parliament), Mulderblauw transformed an office building into a residential hotel. Staybridge Suites The Hague – Parliament is an extended stay hotel concept with 101 suites. The hotel is situated in three buildings. Two of these are located on the Lange Vijverberg, a street where most of the buildings stem from the 18th century. These two buildings are of great historical value; one is listed as a monument and both are listed as protected cityscape.
The rich history of the monument and the surrounding area are used as principles for the layout and the interior design. Rich elements such as wooden panelling, marble fireplaces, brass finishes and a traditional colour palette of rich deep blue and warm ochre reflect the historical concept. The design focuses on emphasizing the existing qualities and respectfully adding elements that complement but never interfere with the historical character.
The entrance of the monumental building serves as the main entrance to the hotel. The existing entrance provides access to the atrium: a romantic, Parisian style courtyard that connects the three buildings and houses the lobby of the hotel. The lobby is centrally located in this atrium granting access to all other public functions; lounge, library, fitness, shop, kitchen and elevators to the room floors.
Stone flooring, garden furniture, greenery and an abundance of light create an outdoor atmosphere. A hanging canopy and festoon string lighting create intimacy in the lobby and function as a filter for the rooms looking down on the atrium.
On the ground floor, on the side of the Lange Vijverberg, two monumental period rooms are situated. These rooms are comfortable spots for relaxation, meetings and breakfast and offer guests a wonderful view of the Hofvijver and the Binnenhof.
In addition to these two rooms on the ground floor, there are two monumental rooms on the first floor, which have been transformed into suites. These rooms feature the original bookcases, panel doors and decorative ceilings. The other 99 rooms have a more contemporary and residential design. Rich materials and fabrics in dark blue, dusty pink and ochre hues give the design a warm and friendly atmosphere.
The hotel is the first Staybridge Suites in the Netherlands. Staybridge Suites is the extended stay brand of InterContinental Hotels Group, guests can stay here for a period up to two months. Therefore, the rooms and public spaces are designed with a comfortable, residential, high- quality interior.
