Amsterdam City Harbour Hotel

On an exceptional location adjacent to the waterfront and centrally situated in the Cruquius area, you find the Amsterdam City Harbour Hotel. The plan is developed by HBB Group and FRIS, and consists of a double-layered underground parking and four building volumes.

Three of the four towers house The niu Fender hotel (designed by Mulderblauw as well) and the fourth tower consists of 85 Yays service apartments. Moreover, the plan is provided with a marina with around 200 berths, where luxury yacht builder Wayer manages a full-service point for its customers.

The project is part of a large area development of the Cruquiuseiland, which will be transformed from an industrial area to living-working area in the coming years. The four building volumes of the Amsterdam City Harbor Hotel stand out from the surrounding buildings. As a result, the Cruquius area is equipped with a large-scale building, just as the neighbouring peninsulas.

The cut that divides the building into four touwers seems to create two contrasting worlds: the rough, ceramic outer shell and the surprisingly soft, light courtyard. The outer facade consist of unique ceramic tiles of 60 by 120 centimeters, that were developed in collaboration with Mosa epecially for this project. By creating a window pattern in which one window in each series seems to be omitted, a playful facade is created. From the outside, it can not be predicted how the rooms are arranged behind these windows.

The courtyard facades are provided with white metal panels with different perforation sizes. In this area, the entrances of the various functions are located. `This together with the light, sloping facades creates an intimate, lively courtyard where users can meet.

The openness of the building is characterized by the glass bridge sections that connect the three Novum hotel towers. On the seventh floor, where the restaurant is located, large windows treat the guests to a phenomenal view over the harbour, the IJ and the Eastern Docklands.

Mulderblauw was also the designer of The niu Fender. The hotel covers 246 hotel rooms, public spaces, a bar and a restaurant. You can read more about the interior design here.
