St Regis Hongkong
Can a building stand out?
At the invitation of one of China’s largest property developers, we designed a very sustainable hotel in the metropolis of Hong Kong. The chosen architectural form is motivated by the client’s desire to add a prominent building to the city, even though a maximum height is permitted. The 185-metre-tall building is characterised by twisting floors that set it apart from its surroundings. The large, wide overhanging façade strips reduce direct sunlight and, hence, the cooling load of the hotel. Additional measures could even make the building energy neutral.
